Our most recent cake class was a culmination of all things great: naked cakes, drips, fresh flowers and macarons! We had a full house, some amazing vendors and an amazingly sweet afternoon!
The project for this class was a naked drip cake, and the best thing about these cakes is that they are extremely versatile! So, to make things a little more exciting my friend Tamara (aka the macaron queen) made macarons for us and Courtney of Courtney Inghram Events provided some beautiful flowers to dress our cakes up!
Before we could get to the pretty, though, we had to build our canvas by leveling and crumb coating our cakes. Everyone was given three cake layers that they cut "hamburger style" to make each layer as flat as possible. They then had the options to color their buttercream before they stacked and frosted their cake.
Once we smoothed the buttercream with our bench scrapers and were happy with our naked cakes, it was time to add the drip. We had both chocolate and caramel options. I must say that this class was by far the most focused one that we've had yet! Everyone was very meticulous and deliberate with all of their decorating choices you can see the concentration on their faces!
Finally the time came for us to add all of the pretty toppings to our cakes. Everyone was given some fruit, macarons and access to the fresh florals and greenery and no two cakes looked exactly the same.
And just like that, everyone created their very own naked drip cake! I think the coolest thing about these cakes is that they come together in a snap. The cake + drip + flower combination really is a winner and all of the cakes turn out as if they came straight from a high end bakery!
